
Brazilian arrested at BIA with 5kg of Cocaine Worth Rs. 240 M

The 59-year-old suspect, identified as a teacher by profession, was taken into custody after authorities discovered 4 kilograms and 855 grams of cocaine concealed in a hidden compartment of his suitcase. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is approximately Rs. 240 million, officials said.
The arrest was made during a routine inspection based on intelligence received by the airport's narcotics unit. Upon thorough examination of the suspect's luggage, officers found the cocaine carefully packed and hidden in a specially modified section of the suitcase.
The suspect is currently being detained and questioned by the Police Narcotics Bureau as further investigations are underway to determine whether he is part of a larger international drug trafficking network.
Authorities praised the vigilance of the airport security and narcotics officers, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to curb drug smuggling operations through Sri Lanka’s main international gateway.
