Presidential commission's report on Easter Attack Handed Over to CID

The Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security has officially handed over the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday bomb attacks to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala announced today.

This move comes under the direct instructions of President [Insert Presidents signaling a renewed push to ensure thorough and transparent investigations into the devastating 2019 attacks that claimed over 250 lives and injured hundreds across multiple churches and hotels.

Minister Wijepala emphasized that the CID will now take forward the next phase of investigations, with a focus on implementing the recommendations of the Commission and holding accountable those responsible for lapses in security and intelligence.

“The President has reiterated his commitment to justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday tragedy,” the Minister said. “This handover is a crucial step toward uncovering the full truth and ensuring such a tragedy never happens again.”

The Presidential Commission, appointed to investigate the attacks, concluded months of witness testimonies and evidence gathering, identifying potential failures across various institutions and recommending legal and administrative actions.
