Weather Alert: Showers and Strong Winds Expected in Sea Areas Around the Island
The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory for sea areas around the island over the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers are expected in a few places, particularly in the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds over the sea will be south-westerly, with speeds ranging from 25 to 35 kmph. However, stronger winds reaching 45 to 50 kmph are likely at times in the sea areas off the coast stretching from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
Due to these conditions, the sea in these regions may become fairly rough. Mariners are advised to be cautious, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
The authorities urge fishing and naval communities to take necessary precautions and stay updated on further forecasts.
