The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has urged Sri Lankan nationals to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety during the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations, following recent missile attacks launched at Israel by the Houthi terrorist group in Yemen.

According to a statement issued by the Embassy, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) successfully intercepted several missile attacks early this morning (April 18), aimed at various locations across the country.

Despite the heightened security concerns, New Year festivities organized by the Sri Lankan community are scheduled to proceed as planned. Events will be held at Tel Aviv Lunar Park on Saturday, April 19, and at Jerusalem Ganscher Stadium on Saturday, April 26.

“Since both of these locations are open areas, we kindly ask all attendees to identify the nearest shelter and take refuge immediately in the event of an attack,” the statement read.

The Embassy also announced a musical concert featuring renowned Sri Lankan artists, set to take place on the evening of April 19 in an indoor concert hall, where safety measures will be more controlled.

In preparation for the celebrations, several ships from Sri Lanka have already arrived in Israel, carrying participants and equipment for the events.

The Sri Lankan Embassy continues to monitor the situation closely and urges all citizens in Israel to stay updated on official safety guidelines issued by both local authorities and the Embassy.
