The general public is advised to take precautions against potential hazards caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. These conditions may cause temporary disruptions and localized damage.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory for multiple provinces, warning of showers and thundershowers expected during the afternoon or night in several parts of the country.

Affected provinces include Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Eastern, North-Central, and Uva, where fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm is likely in some areas.

In addition, morning showers are expected in the coastal areas of the Western Province, as well as in Galle, Matara, and Puttalam districts.

Meanwhile, misty conditions can be expected during the morning in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts, potentially affecting visibility.

Marine Weather Forecast: Showers and Strong Winds Expected Around the Island

The Department of Meteorology has issued a marine weather forecast for the next 24 hours, cautioning fishermen and those engaging in coastal activities to remain alert due to showers, strong winds, and rough sea conditions in several areas.

According to the forecast issued at 5:30 a.m. today, showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. A few other areas around the island may also experience rainfall during the evening or night.

Winds over the sea will be south-westerly, ranging between 25-35 kmph. However, stronger winds reaching up to 45 kmph are likely in the sea regions from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

As a result, the seas in these regions may become fairly rough at times. Meanwhile, other sea areas around the island are expected to remain slight. The department also warns that temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas may accompany thundershowers.
