The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory indicating showers or thundershowers in several parts of the island, particularly during the afternoon or night.

Rainfall is expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and Uva provinces, as well as in the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, and Polonnaruwa. Some areas in these regions may experience fairly heavy falls exceeding 50mm.

A few morning showers are also likely along the coastal areas of the Western Province and in the districts of Galle, Matara, and Puttalam.

Meanwhile, mainly fair weather will prevail in other parts of the country.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions against possible damages from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. In addition, misty conditions are expected in the morning in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, and Uva provinces.

Weather Alert: Showers and Thunderstorms Expected in Coastal Waters

The Department of Meteorology has issued a marine weather forecast for the next 24 hours, warning of possible showers or thundershowers in several sea areas surrounding the island. Coastal regions from Puttalam to Matara, via Colombo and Galle, are likely to experience the most activity.

Winds are expected to be westerly to south-westerly, with speeds ranging between 20 to 30 km/h. While the general sea conditions will remain slight, authorities caution that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.

Fisherfolk and those engaging in maritime activities are advised to exercise caution, especially during evening and night hours.
