The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has requested rooftop solar system owners to temporarily disconnect their units only if they receive an official SMS notification from the Board. This measure, the CEB emphasized, is strictly temporary and applies only until 3:00 p.m. on the day of notification.

According to the CEB, the request is a precautionary step aimed at maintaining grid stability, particularly during the New Year holiday period when electricity demand drops significantly. The unusually low consumption levels, combined with high solar generation, can lead to potential imbalances in the national power grid.

CEB officials assured that the disconnection request is part of a controlled, selective process and is not a blanket requirement for all solar users. Solar system owners are advised to reconnect their units promptly after 3:00 p.m. unless otherwise instructed.

The CEB thanked the public for their cooperation and reiterated that such steps are vital to ensuring uninterrupted power supply and grid reliability across the country..
