A comprehensive security program has been launched in Kandy as thousands of devotees flock to the city for the annual Sri Dalada Maligawa pilgrimage season. Authorities have taken extraordinary steps to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of religious activities surrounding the revered Temple of the Tooth.

As part of the initiative, a deployment of 10,000 personnel from the Sri Lankan tri-forces, the Police Special Task Force (STF), and the National Police has been mobilized across key areas in and around the temple.

To manage the flow of pilgrims and ensure thorough security screening, the police have organized three separate queues at two designated entry points to the Temple of the Tooth. These measures aim to maintain order while minimizing inconvenience to devotees.

Law enforcement officials have also requested the public to cooperate by limiting the items they carry when visiting the temple. “We kindly urge all visitors to avoid bringing unnecessary belongings. This will greatly assist in ensuring a smooth and effective security process,” a police spokesperson stated.

The security operations are expected to remain in effect throughout the pilgrimage season, with constant monitoring and coordination between the forces to handle any emerging situations.
