Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been summoned to appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with a statement he made regarding an ongoing bribery case against New Democratic Front (NDF) MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake.

According to an official letter sent by CIABOC’s Assistant Director General Asitha Anthony, Wickremesinghe has been requested to present himself before the Commission at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 17.

The move comes as CIABOC investigates potential implications of Wickremesinghe’s public comments on the integrity and progress of the case against MP Dassanayake.

Further details regarding the content of Wickremesinghe’s statement or the specific concerns raised by CIABOC have not yet been disclosed.
