Parliament convened today at 9.30 a.m., commencing proceedings with a segment reserved for parliamentary business in accordance with Standing Orders 22 (1) to (6). From 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., Members of Parliament addressed questions requiring oral answers, followed by a session from 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. for questions under Standing Order 27(2).

The main agenda for the day included a debate on the “Report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Establishment and Operation of Illegal Detention Centers and Torture Chambers in the Batalanda Housing Complex,” which was tabled in Parliament on March 14.

The debate is scheduled to take place from 11.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. today. It has also been decided to allocate an additional day in May to continue the debate, making it a two-day discussion.

This marks a significant moment in addressing historic human rights concerns and ensuring accountability through parliamentary oversight.
