The Cabinet has approved a substantial increase in both the minimum monthly and daily wages for private sector employees. The new wage structure, effective from April 1, 2025, is aimed at improving the living standards of workers and addressing the growing cost of living.

The minimum monthly wage for private sector employees will see a major hike of Rs 9,500, rising from Rs 17,500 to Rs 27,000. In addition, the minimum daily wage will be increased by Rs 380, taking it from Rs 700 to Rs 1,080.

The government has also outlined future wage hikes, with another increase scheduled for January 1, 2026. From that date, the minimum monthly wage will be raised by an additional Rs 3,000, bringing it to Rs 30,000. Similarly, the minimum daily wage will increase by Rs 120, rising from Rs 1,080 to Rs 1,200.
