Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a state visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is scheduled to pay homage to the sacred Anuradhapura Sri Maha Bodhi today. The gesture is part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.

In addition to the ceremonial visit, Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate two significant infrastructure projects as part of India's ongoing development support to Sri Lanka.

He will officially launch the Mahawa-Anuradhapura telephone signal system, a key initiative aimed at improving telecommunication connectivity between the regions. This project was established with a grant from the Indian government, reflecting India’s commitment to enhancing Sri Lanka's infrastructure.

Furthermore, the renovated Mahawa-Omantha railway line will also be inaugurated today. The upgrade, funded through Indian assistance, is expected to significantly improve transportation and connectivity between the northern and central regions of Sri Lanka, fostering greater economic and cultural exchange.

The visit marks an important milestone in India-Sri Lanka relations, focusing on economic cooperation, infrastructure development, and strengthening people-to-people connections.
