The Colombo High Court today granted bail to Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and his grandmother, Daisy Forrest. The two individuals were handed charge sheets in connection with allegations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The Attorney General's office filed indictments, which were presented before Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige. Following the proceedings, the court ordered both defendants to be released on bail, with surety bonds set at Rs. 500,000 each.

The case pertains to accusations of money laundering, although specific details regarding the charges remain under investigation. Pre-trial hearings are scheduled for May 30, 2025, where further developments in the case will be addressed.

The legal proceedings have garnered significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved, given their connections to the former political elite of Sri Lanka. The outcome of the trial will likely have political and legal ramifications as it unfolds.
