Namal Rajapaksa, a prominent political figure, has called for unity among all political parties in Sri Lanka as the nation faces economic challenges following the United States' decision to impose a significant 44% reciprocal tariff on Sri Lankan goods.

Namal Rajapaksa, who has been actively engaged in the country's economic recovery efforts, expressed deep concern over the potential consequences of the tariff, particularly its impact on critical sectors such as apparel, which is one of the country’s largest export industries.

He warned that the tariff would not only strain the economy but could also lead to widespread job losses, especially in industries reliant on international trade.

“This tariff decision is a major setback for Sri Lanka's economic recovery. It will hit key industries like apparel hard, and the resulting unemployment could be devastating for thousands of Sri Lankan families,” Rajapaksa stated.

Despite the severity of the situation, Rajapaksa emphasized the importance of setting aside political differences for the greater good of the nation. “In times of crisis, we must put aside partisan politics and unite to safeguard the interests of the people. Our priority must be to mitigate the impact of these tariffs and work towards a collective solution,” he added.

As Sri Lanka faces these economic hurdles, Namal Rajapaksa’s call for a united political front comes at a crucial time, as the country continues to recover from its ongoing financial crisis and strives to stabilize its economy.
