CID investigates 22 ex-Ministers and MPs over misuse of President’s fund

Police confirmed that officers have obtained 22 files related to the disbursement of funds from the President’s Fund as part of their inquiry. Preliminary findings suggest that over Rs. 1 billion was disbursed to these individuals in varying amounts. Investigators are now working to determine whether any irregularities or unlawful activities took place in the process of securing these funds.
In connection with the investigation, CID officers have sought an order from the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, requesting access to the details of cheques issued from the President’s Fund account. This move is expected to aid their ongoing efforts to uncover any financial misconduct.
The investigation is still in its early stages, with authorities working to piece together the full extent of the alleged mismanagement of public funds.
