
Sri Lankan Journalist Namini Wijedasa receives Intl women of courage award

With over three decades of journalistic experience, Wijedasa has become a symbol of resilience and integrity, starting her career by documenting the human toll of Sri Lanka's civil conflict.
As she matured in her profession, she shifted her focus to tackling corruption through investigative reporting, shedding light on critical accountability issues that have long plagued her country.
Wijedasa's work has been instrumental in inspiring a new generation of journalists. Despite facing restrictive legislation that has had a chilling effect on media freedom in Sri Lanka, she remains resolute in her commitment to truth, transparency, and holding those in power accountable for their actions.
During the award presentation, Secretary Rubio praised Wijedasa for her bravery and tenacity in championing transparency and fighting corruption, stating, “Her work has not only brought attention to crucial issues but has fostered vital dialogue on economic prosperity and good governance."
Throughout her career, Wijedasa has emphasized that real change in Sri Lanka can only come when citizens demand accountability from their leaders. She continues to pave the way for future journalists, ensuring that the legacy of courageous, impactful journalism will endure for generations to come.
