Ramanna Maha Nikaya Expels Ven.Rajanganaya Saddharathana Thero

A team of legal representatives, including President's Counsel Anura Meddagoda, informed the Madulla Fort Magistrate's Court today that the written order for the expulsion has been forwarded to the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Buddhasasana, and other relevant institutions. Venerable Rajanganaya was initially charged in January for his controversial actions on social media.
During the disciplinary proceedings, which took place in the presence of four esteemed members of the Mahasangha, the Thero was found guilty of violating Buddhist ethics and conduct. Following this, the decision was made to expel him from the monkhood.
The accused Thero was remanded in custody upon his arrest but was later released on strict bail conditions. His expulsion marks a significant move by the Ramanna Maha Nikaya to uphold the integrity and dignity of the Sangha in Sri Lanka.
This development has attracted considerable attention, raising questions about the impact of modern digital platforms on traditional religious institutions and their values. The Ramanna Maha Nikaya has assured the public that it remains committed to maintaining the sanctity of the Buddhist clergy.
