Nuwara Eliya wasantha sanakeliya 2025 kicks off

The event featured colorful cultural performances and musical acts from local school groups, setting a lively tone for the month-long celebrations.

The ceremony was graced by the Chief Secretary of the Central Province, G.H.M. Ajith Premasinghe, who served as the chief guest. He was joined by several distinguished officials, including Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Thushari Tennakoon and Municipal Commissioner H.M. Bandara.

Organized annually by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council, the Wasantha Sanakeliya festival showcases a variety of traditional and modern events throughout April. 

This year’s highlights include horse racing, car and motorbike racing, flower shows, and kite flying competitions, offering a mix of entertainment and local culture for both residents and visitors.

The festival, a long-standing tradition, aims to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Nuwara Eliya while providing a platform for local talent and promoting tourism in the region. The festivities are expected to draw large crowds over the coming weeks, making it a key event on Sri Lanka's annual cultural calendar.
