Former NC Chief ministerM S M Ranjith sentenced to 16 years in prison

The Colombo High Court has sentenced the former Chief Minister of the North Central Province, S.M. Ranjith, and his Private Secretary, Shanthi Chandrasena, to 16 years of rigorous imprisonment.

 The duo was found guilty of corruption charges, following a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

In addition to the prison sentences, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 200,000 on each convict. The case involved serious allegations of corruption against the former Chief Minister, leading to significant legal action from the CIABOC.
