Plans to Boost Domestic Flights for Tourism in SL

Speaking during an inspection tour of the airport the Minister emphasized the importance of upgrading the facility to accommodate the growing demand from both local and international tourists.
The Minister revealed plans to amend the country's aviation laws to facilitate the expansion of domestic flight operations from Palali Airport. He highlighted that this development would not only enhance the airport's capacity but also boost the local economy, particularly benefiting the people of Jaffna. According to Ratnayake, the airport already has the necessary funds to proceed with its development.
“There has been a noticeable increase in demand from both local and foreign tourists to use Palali Airport, which is already an international airport. Our goal is to improve domestic flight services from here, making it easier for tourists from Jaffna to bypass Katunayake Airport,” said the Minister.
The development of the Palali Airport is expected to reduce travel time for residents and tourists alike, while also promoting regional economic growth. With the necessary funding in place, the Minister is optimistic that work will begin shortly, marking a new era for aviation in the Northern Province.
