
Rajeev Amarasuriya becomes 29th President of Bar Association

With an extensive legal career, Amarasuriya brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has a distinguished appellate court practice, specializing in public law as well as various branches of civil litigation, including contractual, commercial, property, taxation, and banking law. Prior to his election as President, he served as the Secretary of the BASL, gaining significant insights into the workings of the Association and its efforts in shaping the legal landscape of the country.
In addition to his work with the BASL, Amarasuriya holds several key positions in both the public and private sectors. He serves as a Board/Committee Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board and is a member of the Standing Committee on Legal Studies of the University Grants Commission. Furthermore, he is also a Council Member of the University of Colombo, contributing his expertise to the development of legal education in Sri Lanka.
As the newly inducted President of BASL, Amarasuriya is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the interests of the legal profession, promoting justice, and ensuring the rule of law in Sri Lanka. His leadership is anticipated to bring about positive changes and further strengthen the credibility and influence of the Bar Association.
