Four athletes to compete in 19th Asian Marathon Championship today

The Sri Lankan contingent, consisting of two male and two female runners, is determined to make their mark on this highly competitive international event.
The male athletes representing Sri Lanka are T.N. Rathnapala and K. Shanmugeshwaran, while Wathsala Herath and Niemsha Nidarshani will compete in the women’s category. The team is being guided by veteran coach Sajith Jayalal, who is serving as both the coach and the team manager for this event.
Sri Lanka has a rich history in the Asian Marathon Championship, having secured only one medal in its history. That medal came in the 7th edition of the championship, held in Japan in 2000, when Prasanna Gamage won a silver medal with an impressive time of 2:28.25. The current team, while facing fierce competition from other top marathon runners in Asia, hopes to build on this legacy and aim for a podium finish.
The 19th Asian Marathon Championship promises to be a challenging and exciting competition, with athletes from across Asia showcasing their endurance and determination. Sri Lanka’s athletes, though relatively small in number, are ready to take on the challenge and represent their country with pride on the international stage.
As the marathon kicks off today, all eyes will be on Sri Lanka’s athletes, hoping that they can bring home a historic achievement and possibly add to the nation’s marathon legacy.
