27 activists including IUSF convener arrested during a protest

The protesters were demanding the immediate recruitment of allied health graduates from state universities into the public sector.
The demonstration, which began peacefully, escalated when tensions arose after the police arrived at the scene. In an attempt to disperse the crowd, the police forcibly removed the protesters, leading to their arrest. The arrested individuals were taken into custody and are currently facing charges related to the protest.
In response to the unrest, the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court issued a legal order prohibiting the activists from holding protests or demonstrations in key areas, including the Maradana Police Division's Hospital Square, the Ministry of Health, and the surrounding roads.
The student activists have expressed their determination to continue their struggle for the rights of allied health graduates, despite the court order and the police intervention. The protest has sparked discussions on the recruitment practices and the treatment of health professionals in Sri Lanka's public sector.
The situation remains tense as authorities monitor any further developments.
