A new government initiative to establish restaurants across the island aimed at ensuring food security and providing affordable, quality meals will begin with its first model restaurant opening in Narahenpita on April 1st.

The program, led by the National Food Promotion Board, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Agriculture, will also focus on improving the standards of existing restaurants in its second phase.

A preliminary discussion was held at the Presidential Secretariat with officials from all involved sectors. Topics included ensuring access to healthy food, boosting consumer confidence, and implementing policies for food standardization and quality.

The meeting also addressed how the "Clean Sri Lanka" program could foster a culture of nutritious, safe food. Senior officials from the respective ministries attended the event.
