Former Opposition Leader of Central PC Remanded Over Bribery Charges

Don Harindra Chanaka Ailapperuma, the former Opposition Leader of the Central Provincial Council, has been remanded in custody after being arrested in connection with a bribery case. Ailapperuma, a member of the United National Party (UNP), is accused of demanding bribes amounting to Rs. 200,000 and Rs. 150,000 from individuals under the pretext of securing government jobs.
The arrest was made this morning (26) by officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. Following the arrest, the suspect was produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded until March 28. Ailapperuma is set to appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court on the same day.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and bribery within government institutions. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter.
