Akash (Yogi) Patel, the owner of the "Candy Amie Champs" in the 2024 Legends League, has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment by the Matale High Court.

The sentence comes after Patel was found guilty of attempting to manipulate a match by offering a bribe to Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Tharanga.

The court's ruling includes a significant financial penalty, with Patel ordered to pay a fine of 85 million rupees. Additionally, the judge mandated that Patel pay 2 million rupees to Tharanga, the plaintiff, as compensation in connection with the attempted bribery.

The case has garnered widespread attention, shining a spotlight on the ongoing issues surrounding match-fixing and corruption in the sport. Tharanga had reportedly been approached by Patel with an offer to influence the outcome of the game, leading to a thorough investigation and trial.

This conviction marks a significant moment in the fight against corruption in cricket, underscoring the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game at all levels.
