A total of 57 individuals were arrested in the Uswetakeiyawa area of the Pamunugama Police Division after being caught in possession of illegal drugs during an Instagram party. The event, which took place at a hotel, saw attendees using ice and cannabis, according to police reports.
Among the 57 individuals arrested, 16 were found to be in possession of ice drugs and Kerala cannabis. The suspects, aged between 18 and 35, were primarily residents of the suburban areas surrounding Colombo. Police also apprehended the hotel owner, who was found in possession of 3 grams and 20 milligrams of ice.
The arrested individuals, which included 7 women and 34 men, were taken into custody on suspicion of illegal drug use. The authorities are continuing their investigations into the incident, as this latest event highlights the ongoing concerns about drug abuse among the youth in Sri Lanka.
The Pamunugama Police are urging the public to remain vigilant about such gatherings and have emphasized their commitment to combating drug-related crimes.
