A tragic shooting incident claimed the lives of two young men last night in front of the southern gate of the Devundara Sri Vishnu Temple, Throne Road. Police reported that the shooting took place around 11:45 p.m., when a group of men traveling in a van opened fire on two young men riding a motorcycle.

The victims, residents of Sinhasana Road in Devinuwara, were returning from a birthday party at a house in Kapugampura when they were targeted. Police investigations revealed that the attack involved the use of a T-56 assault rifle and two 9mm firearms. A total of 39 T-56 bullet casings, two live bullets, three 9mm bullet casings, and one live 9mm bullet were recovered from the crime scene.

Authorities also found a van, believed to have been used by the shooters, set ablaze along the road from Wellamada, Devinuwara, leading to the port. The fire destroyed the van, and inside, an empty T-56 magazine and three bullet casings were found.

Initial investigations suggest that the shooting may have been a revenge attack linked to organized crime and drug trafficking. Police suspect that Shehan Satsara, a fugitive currently residing in Dubai, is behind the attack. Satsara is believed to be involved in illegal activities, and authorities are working to confirm the connection.

As the investigation continues, the police are seeking additional information and urging anyone with relevant details to come forward.
