Six officers of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), charged in connection with the shooting incident at a hotel in Weligama, Matara, surrendered to the Matara Magistrate's Court today. Following their surrender, the officers were granted bail.

The officers, including the then Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, were named in the charges after a shooting occurred at a Weligama hotel last month. The Matara Magistrate's Court had issued an arrest order for the six officers on February 27, 2025, in connection with the incident.

Today, the accused officers appeared before the court, where their surrender was formalized, and they were subsequently granted bail. The court proceedings surrounding the case are ongoing, and the investigation into the shooting incident continues.

The case has drawn significant public attention due to the involvement of senior police officers, and further developments are expected as the legal process unfolds.
