Six additional suspects have surrendered to the Matara Magistrate's Court in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred near a hotel in Weligama on December 31, 2023. The tragic incident, which led to the death of a police officer from the Colombo Crimes Division, has shocked the nation.

The Matara Magistrate’s Court had previously issued arrest warrants for eight individuals, including the suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deshabandu Tennakoon, in relation to the shooting. These new developments come after months of investigation and intense efforts by authorities to apprehend all those involved in the deadly attack.

The identities of the six suspects who surrendered have not yet been disclosed. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which has sparked widespread concern and calls for accountability in Sri Lanka's police force.

The incident is still under active investigation, and authorities are working to gather further details regarding the motivations behind the attack and the roles each suspect played in the crime.
