Temporary Censure Imposed on MP Ramanathan Archuna

Dr. Wickramaratne highlighted that complaints had been lodged regarding derogatory and divisive statements made by individuals, including MP Archuna, both inside Parliament and on social media platforms. He emphasized that these statements, often made using low-level language, were harmful to national unity and reconciliation efforts.
In response to these concerns, the Speaker ordered that any statements made by MP Archuna in Parliament over the next 8 days will not be broadcast live and will be excluded from the official Hansard record. He further indicated that the censure could be reconsidered depending on the MP’s behavior during this suspension period.
The Speaker's comments underline the importance of maintaining decorum in parliamentary proceedings and ensuring that actions do not disrupt the spirit of unity and cooperation in the country. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
