The Meteorology Department has issued a weather warning for several regions, forecasting showers or thundershowers at multiple locations in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts, after 2:00 p.m. today.

 Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts. The public is advised to stay cautious as these areas may experience intense rainfall and possible localized flooding.

In addition, several spells of showers are predicted for the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district. Misty conditions are also expected during the morning in certain areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and North-central provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with the thundershowers.

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas Around the Island – 19 March 2025

The Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast for the sea areas surrounding the island for the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the sea areas off the coast from Batticaloa to Hambantota via Pottuvil. Additionally, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places along the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Mannar via Galle, Colombo, and Puttalam, particularly during the evening or night.

Winds:
Winds are expected to be south-easterly or variable, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 km/h.

State of Sea:
Sea conditions around the island will be slight to moderate, but temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The public is advised to exercise caution when venturing into the sea, especially during thundershowers.
