The parliamentary debate on the highly anticipated Batalanda Commission report is scheduled to begin on April 10. According to a senior official in Parliament, the debate will be conducted in two phases.
The first phase will take place on April 10, while the second phase is planned for after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations.
The controversial Batalanda Commission report, which has stirred significant public and political attention, was tabled in Parliament just two days ago by the Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Ratnayake. During his statement, Minister Ratnayake confirmed that the report would be forwarded to the Attorney General for further legal action.
In addition, the Minister revealed that a Presidential Committee would be appointed to review the findings and make recommendations aimed at ensuring justice for the victims of the Batalanda torture camps.
The report, which has been a subject of debate for many years, is expected to be a focal point in Sri Lanka's political landscape as it moves forward in the legal and judicial processes.
