The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory for the evening and night, predicting showers or thundershowers in several parts of the country. Showers are expected to occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Southern provinces. A few places in the North-central, Uva, and Eastern provinces may also experience showers or thundershowers.

Fairly heavy rainfall, exceeding 50mm, is expected in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts.

In addition, misty conditions are likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

The general public is advised to take precautionary measures to minimize risks associated with temporary localized strong winds and lightning, particularly during thundershowers.

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas Around the Island: 15 March 2025

The Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast for the sea areas around Sri Lanka for the next 24 hours.

Rain Conditions: Showers or thundershowers are expected in several sea areas off the coast, extending from Trincomalee to Hambanthota via Batticaloa, and from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle, particularly during the evening or night. A few other sea areas around the island may also experience showers or thundershowers during the evening or night.

Winds: Winds will be North-easterly or variable, with speeds ranging between 25 to 35 km/h.

State of the Sea: Sea conditions around the island will be slight to moderate. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

Mariners are advised to exercise caution and remain alert to the changing conditions.
