The government has announced plans to hold a two-day parliamentary debate on the Batalanda Commission report. The announcement was made by the Leader of the House and Minister Bimal Ratnayake during a presentation of the report to Parliament today, March 14.

Minister Ratnayake informed Parliament that the Cabinet, led by President has taken a policy decision to act on the findings and recommendations of the report. He emphasized that the government is committed to taking prompt action in response to the Commission's revelations.

As part of the government's response, Minister Ratnayake revealed that the Batalanda Commission report would be immediately forwarded to the Attorney General for further legal scrutiny. Additionally, the President has decided to appoint a special committee tasked with taking further action based on the report’s findings.

The Batalanda Commission was established to investigate allegations of human rights violations during the period of political unrest in Sri Lanka. The upcoming parliamentary debate is expected to bring these pressing issues into the national spotlight as the government moves forward with its next steps.
