Fairly heavy showers about 50mm are expected in some districts

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast indicating that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places across Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces during the afternoon or night. Additionally, a few places in Central, North-western, and Uva provinces may also experience similar weather conditions.

Fairly heavy showers, amounting to about 50mm, are expected in certain areas of Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with the districts of Galle and Matara.

The morning hours will bring misty conditions in some areas of Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is kindly advised to take adequate precautions to minimize the risks associated with temporary localized strong winds and lightning during the thundershowers. Stay safe and remain alert to weather updates.

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas Around the Island (14 March 2025)

The Department of Meteorology has issued the following weather forecast for the sea areas around the island over the next 24 hours:

Rain Condition: Showers or thundershowers are likely to occur at several locations in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the afternoon or night.

Wind Condition: Winds will be from the north-easterly direction or variable, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 km/h.

State of the Sea: The sea around the island is expected to be slight to moderate. However, temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.

Mariners and coastal communities are advised to exercise caution, particularly during thundershowers, as conditions may deteriorate quickly in some areas. Stay tuned for further updates.
