An early morning shooting that killed a woman and a dog, and also injured a man on Friday is the sixth gun-related incident police have responded to at a Markham home,Toronto Star reported.

At 6:30 a.m., police responded to reports of shots being fired inside a home on Solace Road, a residential area between Castlemore Avenue and Swan Park Road.

York Regional Police found a 20-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds inside the residence, said Const. Kevin Nebrija said. Police identified the woman as Nilakshi Raguthas.
Investigators believe the shooting is targeted. There have been five prior incidents at the home dating back to 2018 — including three in 2024 — in which the house was struck by gunfire.
Police are now looking for at least two people who they say entered the home and opened fire on the occupants, Nebrija said during a press conference near the scene on Friday.

This is being investigated as a targeted shooting and we can confirm that this house has been targeted multiple times in the past,” he said. “The suspects specifically came to this residence to commit these atrocious acts.”
Both victims were transported to a local trauma centre, where Raguthas was pronounced dead. The other victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive, police said in an afternoon update.
The fatal shooting marks York Region’s third homicide this year.
“Two suspects were seen fleeing the residence,” before making their escape in a newer model black Acura TLX, Nebrija said.
A dog was also shot and killed, police said.
A neighbour, who identified himself only as Kumar over safety concerns following the shooting, told the Star that the home was shot at a handful of times over the past few years, including “three times in one month” last year while Kumar was working from home.
