Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has approached the Court of Appeal with a writ petition, seeking an order to prevent his arrest. The petition, filed through his legal representatives, requests the issuance of an interim injunction to stay the arrest warrant that was issued against him by the Matara Magistrates Court.

Tennakoon, who previously served as the head of Sri Lanka's police force, is challenging the warrant on legal grounds, seeking a temporary halt to any action that could lead to his detention. The petition has raised concerns regarding the legality and appropriateness of the arrest order, prompting his legal team to seek judicial intervention.

As of now, the Court of Appeal has yet to issue a decision on the matter, but Tennakoon’s legal representatives have expressed hope for a swift resolution. The case has attracted significant attention, with many following developments closely due to the high-profile nature of the former IGP's position and the gravity of the charges that led to the arrest order.
