New Investigation into Allegations Against former President Wickremesinghe

The announcement comes after the President was questioned about the Batalanda report during a recent interview with Al Jazeera.
When asked about the Batalanda report, President Wickremesinghe dismissed it, asserting that the document was not a report officially tabled in Parliament. This statement prompted further inquiry into the matter, leading to Deputy Minister Watagala's remarks.
In response to journalists' questions, Watagala confirmed that investigations are being conducted urgently into a range of critical issues, including the Batalanda report, the Central Bank bond scam, and the Easter Sunday attacks.
However, he emphasized that discussions must also take place with the Minister of Justice regarding the formal tabling of the report in Parliament.
The Batalanda report, which deals with allegations of human rights abuses during the 1980s, has long been a point of contention in Sri Lankan politics. With the government's renewed commitment to address these matters, it remains to be seen how this investigation will unfold and whether it will lead to greater accountability.
As the investigation progresses, public scrutiny is likely to intensify, with many hoping for transparency and justice regarding these sensitive issues.
