We stands for the livelihood struggle of all women with disabilities - PM

Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, stated that the Parliament stands for the struggle undertaken by women with disabilities, including visually impaired women, for their livelihood.

Hon. Prime Minister expressed these views today (08) while attending the inaugural flag-pinning ceremony of the Women’s’ Visually impaired caucus of the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped, organized in celebration of International Women's Day 2025 at the Parliament. The event was also attended by Hon. Deputy Speaker (Dr.) Rizvie Salih and Hon. Deputy Chairperson of Committees Hemali Weerasekara.

Further expressing her views, the Hon. Prime Minister stated that women with disabilities, including the visually impaired, struggle daily to sustain their professions, ensure their safety, and safeguard their rights. She pointed out that these women are compelled to struggle due to their disability and emphasized that Parliament is intervening to recognize this situation more effectively and take action in support of them.

Subsequently, members of the Women’s’ Visually impaired caucus of the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped conducted the flag-pinning ceremony for the Hon. Prime Minister, Hon. Members of Parliament, and other attendees in commemoration of International Women's Day 2025.

This program was jointly organized by the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus and the Department of Communication. The Chairperson of the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus Saroja Savithri Paulraj, Hon. Member of Parliament Sugath Wasantha de Silva, members of the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus, Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera, Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne, Director Legislative Servises / Director Communication (Acting) M. Jayalath Perera, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped H. J. Nilmini, Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Women’s’ Visually impaired caucus Sharika Rajapaksha, and several other dignitaries were present at the event held.
