CBSL Issues Warning Against Fraudulent Online Advertisements

According to CBSL, these deceptive advertisements, which are generated using artificial intelligence (AI), are designed to mislead potential investors by misusing the image of Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe. The fake ads, appearing on various digital platforms, falsely assert that individuals can receive large sums of money by making small investments with the Central Bank.
The CBSL has emphasized that these advertisements are not legitimate and urged the public to be cautious and avoid falling for such schemes. The bank clarified that it does not offer any investment opportunities of this nature, nor does it engage in any financial services that promise high returns for minimal investments.
Authorities are investigating the source of the fraudulent ads and have reminded the public to only rely on official channels and verified sources for any financial information or offers related to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
In light of these deceptive practices, CBSL has advised anyone who encounters such advertisements to report them immediately to the relevant authorities to help curb the spread of misinformation and protect potential victims.
