A court order has been issued to prevent a planned protest by the Association of Unemployed Teachers at Polduwa Junction in the Welikada Police Division today, March 4. The protest was organized by a group of conveners and activists who are unemployed despite having passed the Teachers' Examination.
The order was issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court following a request from the Welikada Police, after intelligence reports indicated that the protest would obstruct public traffic by blocking roads. The police have emphasized that the protest could cause significant disruption to the flow of traffic in the area.
The individuals named in the court order include:
- Sudesh Rupasinghe, a graduate of the University of Jayewardenepura
- Dhammika Munasinghe, representing the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association
- Amanda Gamage, representing the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association
- Dinusha Ekanayake, representing the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association
- Purnima Nadeesha, representing the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association
The court's decision comes amid growing tensions surrounding the issue of unemployment among graduates, particularly those who have completed the Teachers' Examination but have not been able to secure employment.
Authorities are urging those involved to respect the court order and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions or disrupt public order.
