Senior Mission Chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dr. Peter Breuer, expressed optimism about Sri Lanka’s future during a press conference following the completion of the third review of the country’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program. Dr. Breuer emphasized that Sri Lanka's economic recovery is well underway, and the country is on track for a brighter future.

Highlighting the progress made since the onset of the crisis, Dr. Breuer noted that the outlook for Sri Lanka is increasingly positive, with expectations that more Sri Lankans will remain in the country rather than seeking opportunities abroad.

“We are hopeful that the situation will improve to the extent that many who left during the previous crisis will find it attractive to return,” he said, signaling a potential rebound in the national economy.

Dr. Breuer's comments reflect the IMF’s confidence in Sri Lanka's path toward recovery. The third review of the EFF demonstrated notable strides in restoring macroeconomic stability and rebuilding public trust in the country’s financial system.

With critical reforms in place, Dr. Breuer acknowledged the resilience of the Sri Lankan people and the government’s commitment to overcoming past challenges. He also reaffirmed the IMF’s continued support to Sri Lanka as it navigates its recovery journey.

Sri Lanka's government remains focused on stabilizing the economy, ensuring sustainable growth, and enhancing its global competitiveness in the years ahead.
