Due to the rising water levels at Hedaoya, the Pottuvil to Panama main road has been severely inundated. The water level on the road has risen to approximately 2.5 to 3 feet, creating a critical situation for those traveling in the area.
As a result, public transport services have been suspended, and the road has been closed for safety reasons.
Numerous public requests for assistance in shifting from Pottuvil to the Panama area have been received, with many stranded in the flooded region. Coordination has been made with the Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Army (242) for support, but the final directive is awaited from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in Colombo.
Currently, boat services cannot be operated in the affected area. We appeal to the Sri Lanka Navy and Army for further assistance in providing transport services to evacuate people in need.
We urge the public to stay updated on the situation and follow official instructions.
