The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory, warning of intermittent showers and thundershowers across several parts of the country today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Eastern, Southern, and Uva provinces, as well as in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Polonnaruwa districts. A few showers may also affect the Northern province and Anuradhapura district. Elsewhere, several areas are expected to experience showers or thundershowers during the afternoon and night.

The Western province coastal areas may witness showers in the morning as well.

The department has also issued a warning for fairly heavy showers, exceeding 75 mm, in places located in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Uva provinces, and in Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

The general public is strongly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Rain Conditions:
Showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Galle, passing through Hambantota.

Winds:
Winds will be predominantly from the north-easterly to easterly direction, with speeds ranging between 25 and 35 km/h.

State of the Sea:
The sea areas surrounding the island will be moderate. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.

Mariners and those planning to engage in sea activities should remain cautious due to the possibility of rough conditions and gusty winds during thundershowers.
