Yala National Park has been temporarily closed until further notice due to the heavy rains that have flooded some of the park's tracks. The closure was enacted on the directive of the Wildlife Department, citing the risks posed by the current weather conditions.
Officials reported that some park roads are submerged, making it unsafe for vehicles to enter. As a result, tourists who had been staying in surrounding hotels are unable to visit the park at this time.
“We are prioritizing the safety of visitors and staff, and will only allow access once the tracks are deemed safe,” said a spokesperson from the Wildlife Department.
The park, one of Sri Lanka’s most popular wildlife destinations, is expected to remain closed until conditions improve. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the situation evolves.
