The Petroleum Dealers Association, representing 1,400 fuel stations across the country, has announced it will cease placing new fuel orders starting tonight in response to an ongoing dispute with the government over commission rates.

The Association has also decided to stop providing fuel on credit to all state institutions, further escalating tensions in the fuel distribution sector.

This decision comes after the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) suspended a 3% commission previously granted to distributors, a move that has drawn sharp criticism from the Association. The suspension of the commission has raised concerns among fuel station owners, who argue that the decision will significantly impact their financial viability.

The Association's actions are expected to have wide-reaching effects on fuel supply across the country, with potential disruptions to both retail fuel stations and state-run institutions, including government vehicles and emergency services.

As the situation unfolds, discussions between the Petroleum Dealers Association and the government are anticipated to continue in a bid to resolve the disagreement and restore normal fuel supply operations.
