The Colombo Grand Mosque has officially announced that the crescent moon, marking the start of Ramadan, was not sighted, and as a result, Muslims across Sri Lanka will commence fasting on Sunday, March 2.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time for reflection, spiritual growth, and devotion for Muslims around the world. Fasting during this month is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and commemorates the moment when the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) during the night of Laylat Al Qadr.

As part of the Ramadan observance, Muslims will abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to sunset, focusing on prayer, charity, and personal introspection.

The beginning of Ramadan is determined based on the sighting of the new moon, and this announcement from the Colombo Grand Mosque confirms the date for the commencement of the holy month in Sri Lanka.

Muslims worldwide eagerly await this sacred month, which is a time of unity, compassion, and self-discipline. Communities across the globe will come together in observance, prayer, and reflection on their faith.
