Sri Lanka's Inflation Rate Drops to -4.2% in February 2025

Sri Lanka�s overall inflation rate, as measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI), continued its decline in February 2025, reaching -4.2%, slightly down from -4% in January. The latest figures, released by the Department of Census and Statistics, reflect a significant shift in the country's economic landscape.
Food inflation showed a minor increase, moving to -0.2% in February from -2.6% in January. However, non-food inflation remained unchanged at -6.1%, contributing to the overall decrease in the CCPI index, which fell to 192.2 from 192.6 in the previous month.
The Month-on-Month change in the index was impacted by food items, which contributed 0.11% to the decline, while non-food items had a more significant impact, contributing -0.32%.
This change in inflation signals a general increase in the price level of 92.2% compared to the reference index of 2021. The ongoing inflationary trends are a key focus for policymakers as Sri Lanka continues to navigate its economic recovery.
