A series of productive meetings were held on the sidelines of the 58th UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in Geneva focusing on human rights initiatives and international cooperation.

During the event, Minister of foreign affairs Vijitha Herath met with Ambassador Jürg Lauber, President of the UN Human Rights Council. They discussed Sri Lanka's historical approach to human rights, highlighting the actions taken by the new government to safeguard human rights within the country.

In a separate meeting, he engaged with Mr. Rory Mungoven, Chief of the Asia Pacific Section at the UN Human Rights Office. The conversation focused on the government's ongoing efforts and achievements in improving the rights of vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka.

Minister Vijitha Herath also met H.E. Mr. Charles Jose, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and International Economic Relations of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines. The two officials explored areas of mutual interest, strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and the Philippines.

A key discussion also took place with Ugochi Daniels, Deputy Director General of Operations at the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Minister emphasized Sri Lanka's commitment to protecting the rights of migrants and praised the ongoing efforts of the IOM in the region.

These discussions reflect Sri Lanka's continued commitment to enhancing human rights protections both domestically and in collaboration with international partners.
